Phishing

A Glossary

Phishing

Phishing is a type of cyber attack in which an attacker poses as a legitimate entity or individual in order to trick a victim into giving away sensitive information such as passwords, credit card numbers, or other personal data. Phishing attacks are typically carried out through email, but can also be conducted through social media, messaging apps, or other communication channels.

Phishing can affect managed IT services by compromising the security of an organization’s network and systems. If an employee falls for a phishing email and enters their login credentials or other sensitive information, an attacker can use that information to gain unauthorized access to the organization’s systems or steal confidential data. This can lead to data breaches, financial loss, and damage to an organization’s reputation.

To prevent phishing attacks, managed IT services can implement security measures such as employee training, spam filters, and multi-factor authentication.
